2012, my, you were quite a year. It was a good (great, even) year. I say (a lot) that I’m the luckiest girl in the world, and I mean it every time.
Here’s a look back at some of the best things that 2012 had to offer:
Yet again, I took a run at becoming a professional bridesmaid (and even groomswoman!)
Shellen married Justin in San Luis Obispo:
It was suggested to me that in the interest of being in fewer weddings, I start being a lot meaner to people. We’ll see how that goes.
Clayton married Lydia in Austin:
Cathy married Ty in Portland (and I stuck around for an Oregon coast, post-nuptial vacation):
Marek married Casey in Oklahoma City:
What does 2013 hold in the way of weddings? Here’s some nutty news: for the first time since 2006, I don’t have a bridesmaid dress on-deck or a Save The Date stuck to my fridge. Six of my dearest friends got hitched in a 12-month marathon of I-Do’s, meaning 2013 is going to be wedding-lite. (And that I’m going to be RICH. I think a crack habit would be less expensive.)
I spent a lot of 2012′s hours trying to make my little world a lot better. I suspect I’ll always be a serial volunteer, and that’s just fine.
If it weren’t for girls’ night, group texts, and Gchat with Marek, Nichole, and Brooke, I would’ve gone insane. I’m quite sure of it.
Henry, oh Henry! The almost-3-year-old son of one of a friend who may as well be my sister, got even cuter (I thought it was impossible) and I’m awfully wrapped around his little finger. His parents don’t mind that I’m his own personal paparazzi.
But there was bad news for Henry in 2012: competition. Welcome, Wyatt! His superhero soldier dad was on his second deployment to Afghanistan when he was born, and his mom, Kristyn, a former roommate and forever-friend, asked me to be in the hospital with her when Wyatt decided to make his debut this past summer. If I think about that too much I get a little weepy, because what could possibly mean more?
It was quite a year to work in sports in Oklahoma, if only for the Oklahoma City Thunder’s run to the NBA Finals. Being part of the team that covered the Playoffs and Finals for The Oklahoman and NewsOK.com was, in a word, incredible. I have never been so happy about getting so little sleep. Check out the rest of our Playoff covers. I wrote just one of these headlines. I’ll let you guess which.
We watched rugby matches. We watched ostrich races (and camels, too). I tried my hand (well, hands) at rowing. Look for me in the 2016 Olympiad! Dave Matthews Band was kind enough to throw me a concert for my birthday.
Work was had its moments of silly, its moments of crazy, and its moments of downright fun. My seester came to visit! (We look a little alike, no?) And I (probably illegally) climbed atop the old I-40 to take some photos of an OKC Thunder poster that was, well, a few lanes tall.
We had election night parties, Cinco de Derby parties, trying-on-dresses parties, pumpkin patch parties, award show parties, and film festival parties.
We bid adieu to Travis (but that’s alright, because he’s marrying Brooke — and even though that means she’s saying farewell too, I have a feeling we’ll still be seeing a lot of those two). Barack Obama, not Kevin Durant, was reelected as the President of the United States. Dustin and I took creepy stalker pictures of Chris Kattan. We’re not proud. OK, we obviously were/are.
Christmas in Napa was practically perfect in every way.
What will 2013 bring? To start with, I’m headed to India in 8 days. More on that later.
In the mean time? Just try and wipe this smile off of my face. (You can’t, I’m afraid. Because there’s not a doubt in my mind that I’m the luckiest girl in the world.)

Such a great post! How will I survive without you while you’re in India? My Gchat will be so lonely.
Thanks for being awesome.
I’m not going to promise to blog more in 2013, but, OK, yeah — I’m going to promise to blog more in 2013.
I think that’s a sweep idea. I’ve shooting for 20 posts a month, personally. This lofty goal comes from Marek.
